Surplus Inventory Control Specialist 2
Opportunity: As the Surplus Inventory Control Specialist 2, you work under the general direction of the Surplus Supervisor to receive WSU surplus property and determine its resale or recycling viability. You drive box trucks around the Pullman campus to pick up surplus items, evaluate them for fair market value, and list them for sale through online auctions. You notify priority and public entities about available items, set up and conduct weekly public sales and live auctions, and use computers and related software to complete assigned tasks.

Monthly Salary
$3,417 to $4,542 | Range 38 (Steps A-M)

Position Details
Employee Type: Classified (Full‑time, 100% FTE). Overtime eligible. Position Term: 12 months. Position Sponsorship Eligibility: Not eligible for work visa sponsorship.

Background Check Requirement
This position requires a background check because it has access to children or vulnerable adults, engages in law enforcement, requires security clearance, interacts with WSU students in a counseling or advising capacity, has access to personal identifying or financial information, or unsupervised access to university buildings/property. The background check will not be completed until an initial determination of qualification has been made.

Required Qualifications

Two (2) years of experience receiving and evaluating property with a large‑scale government or commercial warehouse; OR equivalent education/experience.

Valid driver’s license and meet SPPM 7.10 and departmental driving standards.

Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

Experience providing customer service.

Possession of, or ability to obtain, a forklift operations certification within six (6) months of hire.

Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with pricing of used supplies and equipment.

Experience with the setup of live and online auctions.

Experience with sales of used equipment.

Experience with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access.
