Heavy Equipment Operator - GPS Dozer

Overview

Zachry Construction is seeking an experienced GPS Dozer Operator to join our team on a heavy civil highway construction project. The GPS Dozer Operator is responsible for performing precise grading and earthwork operations using GPS-guided equipment while maintaining safety, efficiency, and quality standards. This position requires strong equipment operating skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively within a team environment.
Responsibilities

Operate GPS-equipped bulldozers safely and efficiently to perform grading and earthmoving operations.
Follow grade stakes, hand signals, and GPS controls to achieve accurate elevations and slopes.
Regulate the height and angle of the blade and use the ripper attachment to loosen packed soil and prepare subgrade surfaces.
Inspect and maintain equipment daily, checking fluid levels and ensuring machines remain clean and in proper working order.
Assist in identifying and avoiding existing utilities and underground hazards.
Mentor and assist other operators by demonstrating proper operating techniques and promoting teamwork.
Participate in daily safety and coordination meetings and support site safety efforts by identifying and correcting hazards promptly.
Communicate effectively with supervisors and crew members regarding progress, needs, and any issues encountered on the job.
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

What We’re Looking For

Minimum of 4 years of heavy equipment operating experience.
Proficiency in operating bulldozers for fine grading and earthwork applications.
Previous experience with GPS grade control systems preferred; willingness to learn required.
Knowledge of grading, slope, and finishing roadway techniques.
General operator skills and familiarity with other heavy equipment such as excavators, backhoes, and loaders preferred.
Ability to climb onto and operate heavy equipment safely.
Physical ability to work outdoors, walk on uneven terrain, and perform labor-intensive tasks as needed.
Dependable, self-motivated, and safety-oriented.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Willingness to work extended hours, including nights and weekends, as required by project schedules.
