The Health Technician (Telehealth Clinical) - Advanced provides high level support, training, and advanced management of telehealth operations and is typically stationed at a clinical care delivery site (VA Medical Center - CBOC - VA Outreach Clinic - etc.). This position is located in the Nursing Service at Sioux Falls VA in Sioux Falls, SD.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

Citizenship: Citizen of the United States. Non‑citizen personnel may be appointed on a temporary basis under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405.

Candidates must meet all other requirements for the grade and position concerned.

Experience and Education:

One year of experience in a health care field that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work or provides an understanding of the work such as a medical or clinical assistant, technician, or health technician.

Four academic years above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with courses related to the occupation.

Equivalent combination of experience and education qualifying for entry level.

Certification:

None.

English Language Proficiency:

A candidate will not be appointed if not proficient in written and spoken English.

GS‑7 Experience:

One year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level.

Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to use independent technical judgment, analyze & resolve problems, knowledge of quality control and assurance procedures, manage priorities, maintain and troubleshoot telehealth equipment, work in a team, plan & coordinate activities, assist in development, manage outcomes, and transfer knowledge regarding telehealth technologies.

Duties

Total Rewards of an Allied Health Professional: Major duties include the provision of patient care using telehealth technologies to increase Veteran's access to care and support self‑management.

Developing and delivering virtual and digital technologies that help Veterans communicate with their health care teams and coordinate, track, and manage their health care.

Providing high level support, training, and advanced management of telehealth operations, typically stationed at a clinical care delivery site (VA Medical Center, CBOC, VA Outreach Clinic, etc.) and duties that may require travel.

Delivering competency‑based training for clinicians and telehealth staff.

Supporting clinical telehealth encounters by acting as the telepresenter, collecting clinical data for store‑and‑forward applications, managing real‑time events, providing patient education, and offering technical and administrative support.

Evaluating telehealth operations and supporting performance improvement efforts.

Providing technical support to end‑users and scheduling intra‑facility and inter‑facility telehealth appointments.

Installing, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting technology.

Performing a variety of program support duties as assigned.

Possibility of certification as a preceptor for Clinical Video and/or Store‑and‑Forward Telehealth Operations.

Work schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:30 am – 4:00 pm CST.

Pay: Competitive salary with regular increases.

Paid Time Off: 37–50 days of annual paid time (13–26 days annual leave, 13 days sick leave, 11 paid federal holidays).

Child Care Subsidy: Eligible after 60 days; up to 25% of eligible childcare costs for families with total income below $144,000.

Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5‑year vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% VA contribution.
