Summary
This role involves leading workers in trades and labor work, ensuring tools and materials are available, inspecting and sorting property, operating forklifts and related equipment, and maintaining compliance with policies and security requirements.
Responsibilities
Lead three or more workers to accomplish trades and labor work. Pass instructions to other workers. Ensure needed tools and materials are available. Make sure all workers have enough work.
Check work in progress and completed work for compliance. Answer workers' questions regarding procedures, policies, written instructions and directions. Provide information to supervisor on status and progress of work.
Receive, examine and determine the condition and disposition of a wide variety of materials.
Review disposal turn-in documents accompanying material. Compare data against property ensuring correct information and proper documentation (e.g., stock number, nomenclature, quantity, unit of issue, disposal authority code, DEMIL, condition code).
Visually inspect usable property for obvious signs of condition and determine acceptability.
Determine condition and reportability and special handling requirements (e.g., hazardous material, precious metals, security, DEMIL, Special focus items) and assign appropriate classification instructions for warehousing.
Verify accuracy of demilitarization codes, challenge questionable items/codes when necessary, and maintain segregated storage of property requiring DEMIL.
Ensure proper certification is attached to turn‑in documents when demilitarized by host or generating activity.
Perform special and periodic inventory of property; re‑palletize/re‑locate property as necessary.
Operate forklifts and related materials‑handling equipment to move, load and unload, stack or un‑stack palletized materials, supplies, and equipment.
Requirements
Must be a U.S. citizen.
Tour of Duty: Set Schedule.
Security Requirements: Non‑Critical Sensitive.
Appointment is subject to the completion of a favorable suitability or fitness determination; unfavorable adjudicated background checks will be grounds for removal.
Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA): Non‑Exempt.
Selective Service Requirement: Males born after 12‑31‑59 must be registered or exempt from Selective Service.

Bargaining Unit Status: No.

Qualifications
Applicants will be rated in accordance with the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standard for Trades and Labor Occupations. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required, you must meet any screen‑out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties at the level for which you are applying. Emphasis is placed on how you gained the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time, and the required ability or potential to perform the job.
Experience may include paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Physical Effort
Light to moderate physical effort is required: walking, bending, stooping, reaching, and lifting light to medium weight objects of up to approximately 30 pounds. Tasks include identifying and segregating items and positioning cartons and cases for handling by forklift trucks.
Working Conditions
Work is performed chiefly inside warehouse and storage areas but may require frequent work on outdoor dock areas, scrap yards, and other areas exposed to varying weather conditions. Inside work areas are usually not heated or cooled. The job is subject to minor cuts, bruises, dust, dirt, and grease and requires precautions to avoid serious injury from carelessness of other workers operating forklifts and other equipment in the work area.
