Position
Systems Administrator (Mid-Level) – Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Division, Middletown, Rhode Island
Responsibilities
Set up and maintain systems or specific components, including installing, configuring, and updating hardware and software; establishing and managing user accounts; conducting backup and recovery tasks; implementing operational and technical security controls; and adhering to organizational security policies and procedures.
Conduct functional and connectivity testing to ensure continuous operability.
Develop and document systems administration standard operating procedures (SOP).
Maintain baseline system security according to organizational policies.
Manage accounts, network rights, and access to systems and equipment.
Plan, execute and verify data redundancy and system recovery procedures.
Install, update, and troubleshoot systems/servers.
Evaluate and install patches and resolve software‑related problems.
Perform system backups and recovery.
Comply with organization systems administration SOP.
Implement and enforce local network usage policies and procedures.
Manage system/server resources including performance, capacity, availability, serviceability, and recoverability.
Monitor and maintain system/server configuration.
Perform repairs on faulty system/server hardware.
Troubleshoot hardware/software interface and interoperability problems.
Maintain data files and monitor system configuration to ensure data integrity.
Provide critical preventive and corrective maintenance, information assurance, asset management, technical systems updates, service‑call resolution, and configuration management for C4I systems worldwide.
Design group policies and access control lists to ensure compatibility with organization standards, business rules, and needs.
Provide ongoing optimization and problem‑solving support.
Check system hardware availability, functionality, integrity, and efficiency.
Conduct periodic system maintenance including cleaning (physically and electronically), disk checks, routing reboots, data dumps, and testing.
Oversee installation, implementation, configuration, and support of system components.
Diagnose faulty system/server hardware.
Provide operation and maintenance support including patch management/testing, STIG implementation and mitigation, information assurance/security, anti‑virus, and data backup solutions.
Provide system administration and engineering support for Windows Server 2008/2012/2016.
Qualifications
Active DoD Secret security clearance (must be maintainable/transferable).
Current IAT Level II baseline certification (e.g., Security+, CompTIA A+, or Network+).
Bachelor’s Degree with 2 years of relevant experience, OR high school diploma/GED with 6 years of relevant experience.
Experience administering Windows Active Directory infrastructure, including Group Policy Object management.
Experience with VMware ESXi, database solutions such as Microsoft SQL.
Strong understanding of current Microsoft-supported Windows operating systems.
Ability to multi‑task and teach or assist others to resolve systems‑related issues.
Ability to create SOP documentation for designs and implementation strategies of new hardware and software deployments.
Ability to produce system specifications, design requirements, test evaluation plan documents, and technical publications and reports.
Ability to support projects at client sites where working conditions may vary.
Willingness to take ownership of problems and see through to resolution.
Experience with Windows 10, Windows Server 2012, 2016, 2019, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6/7, Cisco IOS.
Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
Desired Experience and Skills
Familiarity with DoD networking and security accreditation requirements.
Experience with HBSS, eMASS, ACAS, SCAP, VRAM, DIACAP/RMF.
