Public Property Laborer – Town of Rockport
Town of Rockport | Public Property Laborer
Reports to: Public Property Division Foreman
Pay Rate: $21.12/hr
Full‑time position providing routine and special public property maintenance tasks including custodial services, landscaping, equipment operation, and special events.
Responsibilities
Clean and maintain buildings, restrooms, and related facilities, including exterior landscaping, snow and ice removal, and trash removal.
Maintain cemeteries: rake, clean, mow, trim, and remove trash; install monument foundations and provide funeral services.
Perform grounds, parks, and roadside maintenance: rake, clean, remove trash, mow, trim, prune hedges and shrubs; build, paint, and repair fences and guardrails; clear grass and brush.
Support playgrounds and sports fields by repairing benches, swings, score boards, and maintaining baseball diamonds.
Clean beaches, rake debris, and manage seaweed removal.
Assist with Christmas decorations: locate, set up, decorate large and small Christmas trees, and remove after the holiday season.
Empty town‑owned trash barrels throughout the town.
Operate snow and ice equipment, including sanding and plow trucks, and perform manual shoveling during snow events.
Operate and maintain equipment such as large mowers, sanding equipment, snow plows, and windshield wipers.
Work with other DPW divisions and assist in repairs as needed.
Qualifications
Current valid driver’s license; must maintain it throughout employment. CDL Class B license required within six months of hire.
Ability to perform strenuous physical work in inclement and hot weather.
Ability to operate a variety of equipment: grass cutting equipment, leaf blowers, floor cleaning equipment, snow blowers, and various hand tools.
Areas of Responsibility and Accountability
Custodial services for public restrooms and town office building.
Beach maintenance: debris and seaweed cleanup, equipment installation/removal, regulation posting.
Christmas decorations: installation and removal of wiring and stands for trees.
Mowing, trimming, and raking assigned areas; maintain baseball diamonds at Evans Field and Pingree Park.
Trim shrubs, weed plantings, fertilize, mulch, and water as needed.
Plant and water new trees and shrubs.
Provide funeral services and install monument foundations.
Maintain cemetery records and provide data for office monthly commitments.
Setup building facilities for town meetings and elections.
Maintain and supervise emergency generators.
Other responsibilities as designated by the DPW Administration.
