
Assistant Controller

We are looking for a results‑driven and confident Assistant Controller to help improve our organization's financial performance and accounting operations. The role involves managing accounting records, evaluating risk, ensuring regulatory compliance, publishing consolidated financial statements, analyzing financial data, monitoring expenditures, forecasting revenue, coordinating auditing processes, managing internal and external resources, and supporting technology rollouts.
The ideal candidate should possess strong analytics, exceptional problem‑solving skills, a flair for numbers, be highly organized, and have excellent leadership abilities. The candidate should streamline accounting functions, provide financial analysis and reports, train staff on finance issues, promote regulatory compliance, and drive income generation.
Strategic Position
Reports directly to the Controller.
Multi‑site responsibility; current operations in multiple states with ongoing acquisitions.
Fast‑paced, high‑growth environment with impact on business decisions, vision, process, and structure.
Responsible for driving key business decisions and shaping accounting team leadership.
Responsibilities
Manage all accounting operations including Billing, A/R, A/P, GL Controlling, Job Cost Accounting, Inventory Accounting, and Revenue Recognition.
Oversee and direct all financial reporting for multi‑site locations.
Handle hands‑on accounting duties and transition to management/leadership duties as needed.
Manage opening balance sheet and purchase price accounting (PPA) of new acquisitions.
Integrate and acclimate new operating companies to processes, tools, and systems.
Plan long‑range budgets, supervise all accounting functions including operations controlling, legal entity ledger closing, price/volume/mix analysis, quote support, and sourcing decisions.
Coordinate and direct preparation of budgets and financial forecasts and report variances.
Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements.
Coordinate preparation of regulatory reporting.
Research technical accounting issues for compliance.
Manage month‑end and year‑end close processes.
Ensure quality control over financial transactions and reporting.
Manage and comply with local, state, and federal reporting requirements and tax filings.
Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
Perform additional controller duties as necessary.
Requirements & Skills
Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in accounting.
Strong leadership, vision, and communication skills.
Experience with ERP/Financial system integration.
Ability to partner closely with the CFO.
Track record of developing and implementing process improvements.
Proven experience as a Financial Controller in a multi‑site business.
6–8 years of combined accounting and finance experience.
M&A integration and PPA experience required.
Experience with Percent of Completion, project accounting, job costing, and work‑in‑progress accounting.
CPA/MBA preferred.
Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures.
Experience with creating consolidated financial statements.
Experience with general ledger functions and the month‑end/year‑end close process.
Excellent accounting software user and administration skills.
Prior experience with the construction industry preferred but not required.
Location
Ideal candidate will reside in Plantation/Fort Lauderdale, FL and could be on‑site 3–4 days a week.
