GAI is seeking a Senior Project Technical Specialist 2 to join our Power Delivery team in the role of Senior Transmission Design Engineer. This position will report to the Transmission Line Assistant Engineering Director in our Power Delivery Engineering Business Sector in GAI’s Power Business Unit.

Required skills include transmission line design experience, critical thinking, problem solving, organization, team‑focus, and eagerness to apply learned engineering principles to solve real life problems. This position will be hybrid out of our Lisle, IL office.

This role combines technical leadership in transmission line design with advisory responsibilities to support a program through all phases of project development and execution. Candidates will have extensive experience in high‑voltage transmission line engineering and design, and strong problem‑solving skills. They will be a technically focused project leader with developed technical, communication, and computer skills, collaborating closely with the Assistant Engineering Director for this program.

Competencies

Extensive knowledge of electric utility transmission line engineering and design.

Extensive experience in applying project management skills and uses of advanced practices to increase productivity, efficiency, and accuracy.

Job Responsibilities

Complete day‑to‑day project tasks as required for successful project delivery. Tasks may include:

Preparation of Specification Packages

Preparation of Structural and Fabrication Drawings

Design and Analysis of Transmission Lines using PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and PLS-Tower

Design and Analysis of foundations

Analysis of existing and proposed structures with regard to client and other required codes, standards, and specifications

Performance of Electrical Clearance checks and calculations

Coordination and development of permits for Railroads, Roadways, and Environmental Crossings

Apply engineering principles to assist in the design of Power Delivery Projects.

Must demonstrate attention to detail.

Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Perform complex tasks typically following established processes.

Implement effective engineering methods, provide technical guidance, and act as a resource for engineers and designers.

Directly manage projects with no limit to the number or value of individual projects managed.

Effectively execute projects within scope, schedule, and fee for projects managed.

Assist in quality control and quality assurance of active projects, providing peer and final reviews and training of engineers and designers in quality control processes.

Establish and refine engineering processes and standard operating procedures that enhance team performance, alignment, and delivery predictability.

Technical Responsibilities

Develop standards and guidelines.

Lead a program in the organization in their area of specialization.

Develop appropriate design alternatives for complex engineering projects that consider realistic requirements, constraints, community input, permitting, and other regulatory constraints.

Integrate advanced concepts, including sustainability, to solve complex problems.

Project and Task Management

Oversee large or multidiscipline project teams.

Recommend facilities, personnel, and funds required to carry out programs.

Oversee technical, legal, and financial issues of an entire program.

Integrate these components into a complete project management plan for a complex engineering project.

Implement effective teamwork, leadership, and justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion principles into solutions for engineering problems.

Determine program objectives and requirements.

Develop organizational policies and procedures.
