Design Phase Engineer I and II - Power Delivery

Mortenson is currently seeking a Design Phase Engineer I and II to join our Power Delivery Solutions group and support project leadership during the design phase. The role focuses on customer experience, financial performance, schedule, estimating, design, and planning to ensure a smooth transition to construction operations. Strong communication and organizational skills are essential.

Responsibilities

Support the project team to achieve scope, budget, and schedule alignment, integrated team experience, construction readiness, and strong financial performance.

Assist with establishing and managing project budget and scope expectations, maintain budget trending logs, and handle related communications and resources.

Create and manage project schedules and key milestones; hold team members accountable for meeting milestones.

Assist in regulatory approval and permitting processes.

Identify technical design and specification concerns and escalates as needed for resolution.

Provide meaningful recommendations for project programming and conceptual design activities, ensuring constructability and logistic solutions.

Coordinate with the integrated construction team to incorporate BIM/VDC modeling technology into the design phase.

Assist with project proposal development.

Prepare bid packages and contract manuals for subcontractors and suppliers with the project planning team.

Analyze and track LEED requirements.

Coordinate document and electronic interface processing.

Act as a model for exceptional customer relations.

Gather feedback and clarification during the design process, and identify potential future projects.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil, or Architectural Engineering, Construction Management, Estimating, or an equivalent field.

Strong teamwork orientation, initiative, communication, problem‑solving, and leadership skills.

Detail orientation sufficient to manage multiple project tasks.

Basic understanding of construction law and generally accepted business practices.

Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office, Project, and relevant web applications.

Positive professional attitude and strong customer service skills.

Ability to interpret and communicate Mortenson policies to employees and external parties.

Open to change based on diverse input and feedback.

Effective working with individuals from diverse backgrounds at all organization levels.

Adaptable, effective communication, and active listening skills.

Ability to travel up to 100%.

Design Phase Engineer I

Minimum of two years relevant experience.

Base pay range: $82,000 – $110,700.

Design Phase Engineer II

Minimum of four years relevant experience.

Base pay range: $91,100 – $123,000.

Actual ranges are higher for the following office locations (Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%; Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR – 10%; Washington, D.C. – 12.5%). Base pay within the range is based on knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration for internal equity. This position is eligible for Mortenson’s incentive plan.
