VHA - Habitat for Humanity of VA Resource Development VISTA
AmeriCorps, Richmond, VA, United States
Overview
Virginia Housing Alliance’s (VHA) AmeriCorps VISTA project is a statewide intermediary project with 18 Host Sites, all that either work to expand affordable housing opportunities and/or end homelessness throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. VHA’s VISTA project aims to develop viable communities by promoting integrated approaches that provide decent housing, suitable living environments, and expansive economic opportunities for low and moderate-income persons. This listing is to fill the Host Site opening at Habitat for Humanity of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA. Habitat for Humanity Virginia (HFHVA) supports 36 local affiliates in expanding affordable homeownership for households earning below 80% of Area Median Income. Since 1985, affiliates have built or rehabilitated more than 3,550 homes and repaired over 3,000 across rural, suburban, and urban Virginia. As housing prices and rents rise statewide, HFHVA provides grant research and writing support, funding guidance, board development, and statewide networking to help affiliates keep mortgage payments affordable and below 30% of income. HFHVA also advances a growing solar initiative that lowers long-term energy costs for Habitat homeowners. The Resource Development VISTA will strengthen HFHVA’s capacity to secure and manage funding that sustains and grows affordable housing production. The VISTA will research grants and philanthropic prospects, support expansion of the solar program through funding and impact documentation, and assist capital initiatives such as the Virginia Affordable Housing Loan Fund and MidAtlantic Affordable Shelter. By developing funding systems, partnerships, and housing data resources, the VISTA increases affiliates’ ability to produce and preserve affordable homes statewide.
