The Lead, Mechanical Engineer is responsible for participating in the design of detail parts, assemblies, and installations for aircraft structures, mission equipment installations, and mechanical systems installations. The engineer applies basic engineering design and analytical theory with an understanding of structural analysis for application to integrated system design.
Essential Functions
Research, develop layouts, prepare engineering drawings, and coordinate design activities with Tooling, Flight Sciences, Manufacturing, and Production to ensure designs meet requirements at minimum cost.
Designs accomplished using world‑class, three‑dimensional solid modeling CAD tools under the guidance of senior‑level design engineers.
Mechanical design engineer works on a wide variety of tasks and aircraft systems across various aircraft platforms.
Provide guidance, coaching, and training to other employees.
Oversee the design of detail parts, assemblies, and installations for aircraft structures, mission equipment installations, and mechanical systems installations.
Ensure proposals are vetted for accuracy in cost, scope, and schedule.
Drive successful program execution by ensuring initiatives are completed on time, within budget, and in full compliance with all processes, procedures, and program requirements.
Provide input into new products, processes, standards, and/or operational plans that have measurable impact on the achievement of overall function or business results.
Ensure program airworthiness, customer, and company requirements are understood and met.
Manage and work in a fast‑paced, demanding environment focused on problem resolution and process improvement.
Influence a wide range of audiences and demonstrate leadership skills to win support without a direct reporting structure.
Maintain the complete lifecycle of programs including proposals, bids, planning, risk assessment, and execution.
Possess an understanding of aircraft systems and various mission systems.
Lead experience on large prototype programs.
Outstanding communication (verbal and written), negotiation, collaboration, time management, presentation, and organizational skills.
Familiarity with FAA (Part 23 and 25) and military aircraft airworthiness design approach, certification process, and requirements.
Knowledge of manpower planning, milestone scheduling, and related financial management.
Formulate strategic vision and define implementation plans to achieve success.
Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret with SCI security clearance.
Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree with 9 years of aircraft design experience.
Graduate degree with 7 years of aircraft design experience.
In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of aircraft design experience.
Must be a U.S. Citizen.
Preferred Additional Skills
Active Secret or Top‑Secret security clearance.
