has an opening for a Transmission System Operator at our Hughesville location. The primary function of this role is to learn and participate in the safe and reliable operation of SMECO’s 230kV and 69kV transmission and substation systems in compliance with NERC, NESC, PJM, ISO and Maryland PSC codes and regulations.
Responsibilities and Attributes
Flexible schedule – must have the ability to work shift work (Days, Evenings, Nights, Weekends, and Holidays)
Attention to detail – the work requires adequate focus; failure to concentrate may lead to mistakes, equipment damage, or bodily harm
Communication skills – ability to write well, listen well, understand and follow procedures, and direct others
Multitasking – ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously without confusion or stress
Problem solving – ability to identify complex problems and find safe, reliable solutions
Enthusiasm to learn and grow with the industry and changing technology
Qualifications
Two‑year college degree or equivalent, with emphasis in math, statistics, or basic electricity. Specialized training in electric utility operation and maintenance is required, and some computer courses are preferred. A minimum of five years of progressive experience in the operation, construction and maintenance of electric utility systems is required. SCADA experience is preferred.
Compensation & Benefits
The starting salary range is $81,100 - $105,200. SMECO offers 401(k) with a 6% dollar‑for‑dollar match and an additional 3% non‑elective company contribution.
