About the role of a Toolmaker
The Toolmaker’s purpose is to construct precision tools or dies that are used to cut, shape, and form metal and other materials. They produce jigs and fixtures and gauges and other measuring devices.
Responsibilities of a Toolmaker
5 years minimum experience in sizing and making dies for cold forming equipment.
Must be able to read blueprints and work within .0001 of an inch.
Ability to operate and read all types of measuring tools.
Good with bore gauges.
Ability to operate a 250 ton press to disassemble die assemblies and reassemble and size afterwards.
Ability to run lathe, surface grinders, ID grinders, lapping and polishing lathe.
Work with different tool steels such as carbide, O-1, M-2 and M-4.
Additional skills and/or experience required for success in the role of a Toolmaker
Mechanically inclined.
Able to use hand tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers, etc.
Possess basic computer skills.
Able to commit to perfect attendance during the training schedule.
Able to read job instructions.
Able to complete required paperwork.
Able to stand, walk, bend, push, pull, lift, and sit as needed throughout the day.
Able to communicate clearly and effectively.
