CUNY School of Medicine (SoM) is the only medical school in the CUNY system. Our innovative curriculum allows students to complete both their undergraduate Bachelor of Science (BS) and Doctor of Medicine (MD) degrees in seven years. CUNY SoM graduated its first MD class in 2020. In addition, the CUNY SoM offers a two-year Physician Assistant (PA) program to prepare health professionals licensed to practice medicine with physician supervision. Our mission is to provide access to medical education to talented youth from historically underrepresented backgrounds in medicine, develop health professionals committed to practicing in under‑served communities, and perform innovative research in community health and biomedicine.
The Department of Molecular, Cellular, and Biomedical Sciences (MCBS) at the CUNY SoM invites applications for a full‑time, tenure‑track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Medial Professor (Basic Science) or Associate Medical Professor (Basic Science).
Responsibilities
Serve as Principal Investigator for neuroscience‑related research, leading laboratory development, experimental design, and project execution.
Develop and establish a new research program or further an existing neuroscience research initiative at CUNY.
Obtain and sustain extramural funding at the national level to support research activities.
Contribute to the Department’s academic mission through teaching, mentoring, and curriculum development as needed.
Participate in departmental service responsibilities, including committees and governance activities.
Engage in service at both the institutional (CUNY) and school (CUNY SoM) levels to support shared governance and strategic initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications
A doctoral degree (Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent) in neuroscience or a closely related biomedical field.
Preferred Qualifications
Ability to teach successfully at the medical and/or graduate level.
Demonstrated scholarship or professional achievement in the candidate’s area of expertise.
Ability to work collaboratively and collegially with colleagues, students, and institutional partners.
Depending on level of experience, a demonstrable track record of research productivity, including high‑impact, peer‑reviewed publications and a record of securing external funding, particularly from federal or other governmental agencies.
Compensation and Benefits
Assistant Medial Professor (Basic) – $80,982 – $104,883
Associate Medical Professor (Basic) – $100,000 – $125,000
