REPORTS TO: Director of Athletic Ministries
QUALIFYING CHARACTERISTICS:
The Head Athletic Trainer should display a commitment to Jesus Christ demonstrated in both professional and personal life, a commitment to Christian education, and a calling to invest in the physical, spiritual, and character development of student athletes. This individual should model compassion, professionalism, and leadership while serving student athletes within a Christ-centered athletic environment.
EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred. Current Athletic Trainer certification and state licensure required (Board of Certification or equivalent). Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certification required. Previous experience providing athletic training services in a school, collegiate, or competitive sports environment preferred.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
Provide comprehensive athletic training and sports medicine services to student athletes across all sports programs.
Evaluate injuries and medical conditions and provide appropriate treatment, care, and medical referrals when necessary.
Provide on-site medical coverage at practices, games, and athletic events including emergency response when required.
Develop and implement individualized rehabilitation programs to safely return athletes to participation.
Implement injury prevention strategies including taping, bracing, warm-up protocols, and athlete education.
Maintain accurate and confidential records of injury evaluations, treatments, and athlete progress.
Assist with pre-participation physical screenings and coordinate medical clearances with physicians and the school nurse.
Manage and maintain athletic training equipment, treatment supplies, and medical inventory.
Collaborate with the Strength and Conditioning Coordinator on injury prevention initiatives and return-to-play programming.
Communicate regularly with coaches, parents, school administration, and medical professionals regarding athlete health and recovery.
Teach a high school course related to athletic training, sports medicine, or wellness as assigned.
Supervise and mentor students participating in athletic training or sports medicine programs when applicable.
Develop and oversee emergency action plans and concussion management protocols for all athletic programs.
Participate in athletic department meetings, planning sessions, and professional development opportunities.
Serve as a mentor to student athletes by encouraging leadership, discipline, resilience, and Christ-centered character development.
Support the mission of First Baptist Academy and contribute to the spiritual formation and discipleship of student athletes.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to meet the physical demands of providing athletic training services, including mobility to attend athletic practices and events and physically assisting athletes during evaluation and treatment.
EXEMPT STATUS: Salaried
