CM Richey, a busy construction company located in Ronkonkoma, NY, is seeking an experienced Electrical Estimator. CM Richey performs electrical construction projects throughout the New York City Metro Area including: New York City, Long Island, Westchester, New Jersey and Connecticut. CM Richey projects range in size from $10,000 to $10 Million plus.

The Electrical Estimator will be responsible for delivering accurate, competitive cost estimates for private electrical projects across commercial, retail, healthcare, supermarket, and light industrial sectors. This position will lead the estimating process from initial document review through bid submission and project turnover, ensuring scope completeness, cost accuracy, and alignment with company objectives. The Estimator will collaborate closely with project management, field operations, engineering, vendors, and subcontractors to support successful project acquisition and execution.

Key Responsibilities

Manage assigned projects from initial review through bid submission and project turnover.

Review and analyze project drawings, blueprints, specifications, and bid documents to determine complete scope and identify discrepancies.

Perform complete quantity takeoffs and develop accurate labor projections for electrical installations.

Prepare detailed cost estimates including labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and other project-related costs.

Utilize estimating software such as Accubid, On-Screen Takeoff, and Bluebeam to ensure accuracy and consistency.

Solicit and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors to secure competitive pricing.

Develop and maintain strong relationships with vendors and subcontractors.

Attend pre-bid meetings, pre-bid walkthroughs, site visits, and scope review meetings as required.

Collaborate with project management and engineering teams to clarify scope and ensure estimates reflect realistic construction methods and schedules.

Identify scope gaps, risks, and value engineering opportunities.

Review and incorporate historical cost data from prior projects, purchase orders, subcontracts, and labor productivity reports.

Prepare and submit comprehensive bid packages and participate in bid presentations when required.

Support project hand-off to operations teams to ensure a seamless transition from estimating to execution.

Maintain organized records of estimates, proposals, and supporting documentation while tracking estimating accuracy.

Qualifications

7+ years of electrical estimating experience in commercial construction.

Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience).

Experience with commercial, retail, healthcare, supermarket, and light industrial projects; additional experience in institutional, healthcare, airports, power, fire alarm, or security systems is a plus.

Strong knowledge of electrical systems, installation practices, estimating techniques, and cost control.

Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and computerized cost data.

Experience working with Accubid, On-Screen digital take-off software (or similar) and PDF software (Adobe, Bluebeam).

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other related software.

Excellent interpersonal skills with strong written and verbal communication abilities.

Must be extremely detail-oriented, organized, and able to perform detailed work while meeting deadlines.

Must be creative and flexible.

Ability to manage multiple bids in a fast-paced environment.

Must have a positive attitude and be able to work in a team environment.

Candidate should be professional, friendly and reliable.

Must have stable work history and be authorized to work in the U.S.

Electrical field experience is a plus but not required.

Ability to work on-site in Ronkonkoma, NY.
