
Communication Maintainer

Overview
The Communications Maintainer will install, inspect, and test all of Metra’s indoor and outdoor communication systems at various locations. The role includes maintaining and repairing telecommunications equipment, such as VHF/UHF radios, radio dispatching systems, public address and video surveillance systems, automatic revenue collection equipment, alarm monitors, GPS networks, fiber‑optic systems, and communication computer networks. The position requires compliance with railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations, and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), and includes on‑call duties (nights, weekends, holidays) per the union contract.
Compensation
Salary Range:
$8,402.12 – $8,402.12
Union Status
This is a Union position. Starting pay rates may vary based on entry rates in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
Veteran Outreach
Qualified veterans who meet the minimum requirements will receive outreach during the recruitment process in accordance with Federal and State laws, including the Illinois Veterans Preference Act. Meeting the minimum qualifications does not guarantee an interview or job offer. The most qualified candidate will be selected.
Requirements
Associate degree in Electronics or an equivalent combination of education and telecommunications/military experience totaling two (2) years.
At least three (3) years of communications work experience that includes board‑level radio communication/RF repair, inside/outside plant telecommunication equipment or systems, or computer
etworking.
Operating Rules qualified within six (6) months of hire.
Able to obtain a CDL‑A license or permit within 60 days after hiring.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Preferred
Federal Communications Commission (FCC) License preferred.
