Shop Technician Responsibilities

Performs basic diagnostics and repairs on equipment and established products as requested by the Service Manager and Service Writer.

Prepares all reports and forms required in conjunction with work assignments.

Maintains condition of shop, vehicles, inventory, tools, and equipment.

Follows all safety rules and regulations in performing work assignments.

Completes dis‑assembly and inspection, as efficiently as possible, so parts may be ordered and machine work can be scheduled promptly.

Maintains records and accounts for all time, parts, and supplies used in repairing and servicing both customer and dealership equipment.

As a Shop Technician, you will work in the shop (with occasional work required outside in varying weather conditions) to repair, conduct maintenance, and address any customer concerns or questions regarding our fleet of John Deere equipment.

Job Requirements

1‑3 years of mechanical experience on CandF equipment or similar, with willingness to continue learning as a mechanic.

Basic Service Technician or Mechanic certification preferred.

Proficient oral and written communication skills.

High School Diploma or equivalent experience required.

Valid, clean driver’s license preferred.

Strong communication skill and self‑motivated.

Physical Demands

Physical Effort: Shop mechanics continually work on machines in the shop, often moving on/under machines to perform repairs and services. They must be able to lift objects up to 50 pounds repeatedly without assistance. Occasional operation of vehicles and diagnostic equipment may be required. They frequently stand for long periods and often kneel, bend, or lie on their backs to perform repairs, services, and maintenance.

Working Conditions: Work is performed on hard floors in the shop. Exposure to dirt, grease, fumes, cuts, bruises, strains, loud noises, and other hazards is expected. Shop mechanics must follow strict safety procedures, use proper equipment safety, and wear PPE.

Travel: Little to none.
