Position Description
Seeking a confident and strategic team member to join the communications team for our educational program, Free the Facts, and help build our social media and digital footprint. A thoughtful and strategic social media and digital communications leader, this person will report to the Director of Communications and be responsible for developing and executing an integrated social media strategy and editorial calendar that aligns with our short- and long-term communications and key stakeholder engagement goals.
This person is a problem-solver, creative thinker, highly culturally engaged, an excellent communicator, and a good team player. The ideal candidate has experience working with C-suite-level executives in the non-profit and/or issue-campaign world and brings both gravitas and creative new thinking daily.
Core Duties
Lead the development of a modern, effective, and adaptable social and digital strategy that targets young people.
Develop a deep understanding of the issues campaign landscape to create a comprehensive content strategy that incorporates key messaging and themes that align with and support our overall strategic plan.
Conceptualize and produce thoughtful social media content, including daily, real-time content suggestions, as well as recurring content series (e.g., Instagram posts that educate and inspire, web articles that provide additional information, etc.).
Create and manage a social media editorial calendar.
Track digital and social media key performance indicators (KPIs) and adjust strategy accordingly.
Monitor news related to our focus to identify opportunities or risks and adapt content plans on the‑fly based on unexpected changes in the broader media/social/cultural landscape.
Organize content development workshops and regular editorial planning meetings to ensure the short-, medium-, and long-term content pipeline is planned and in production for the following days, weeks, months, etc.
Create and deliver compelling presentations to our leadership team.
Establish operational infrastructure that accounts for all relevant stakeholders and inputs (planned announcements, major milestones, real-time/unexpected cultural and local events) to feed into overall communications strategy and content calendar.
Grow the social following and engagement through active community management (comments, likes, retweets, etc.).
Support with influencer partnerships and other paid social media tactics.
Qualifications
4–6 years of professional experience, with 4+ years of experience developing and managing social campaigns for non-profits, or political or issues campaigns.
Deep knowledge of IG, LinkedIn, X, and TikTok, including experience creating content and an understanding of algorithmic and user behavior.
Understanding and appreciation for how to engage communities on social media with an authentic, pro-social voice and position.
Ability to translate complex issues into accessible, engaging content.
Ability to develop and execute a data-driven social and digital strategy, with a strong understanding of the relevant KPIs.
Strong presentation skills and ability to present to senior leadership.
Familiarity with social media management and analytics tools such as SproutSocial.
Digital and/or video production skills (a plus).
Familiarity with influencer collaborations (a plus).
Experience with project management and/or familiarity with Asana (a plus).
Understanding of an audience ages 18–35 and their social media habits (a plus).
Highly motivated, ambitious team player with demonstrated ability to work well with others across client and partner agencies.
