Surgery - Cardiovascular Physician Assistant

Coverage Needed

• Start Date: June 2026
• End Date: Ongoing
• Schedule: 7am-3:30pm, 5 days per week, 2 weeks per month
  • 10 shifts per month
• Call: No Call; possible weekend rounding once per month (Saturday/Sunday, 4 hours each day)

Clinical Details

• Specialty: Physician Assistant - CT Surgery/CVI
• EMR: EPIC
• OR Coverage: Endoscopic vein harvest, first assisting
• Inpatient Rounding Responsibilities: Management of postoperative patients, writing notes, placing orders, removing surgical drains and pacing wires, discharges, admissions, consults
• Clinic Responsibilities: One formal day per week, includes seeing post-op patients, new patient consultations, preparing and educating patients for surgery, answering outpatient phone calls
• Type of Patients/Cases: Cardiac surgery patients, CABG, AVR, MVR, TAVR
• Approximately 150 open hearts per year
• Patients Per Day: 6-8
• Trauma Level: Level II
• Support Staff: Other Cardiac PAs, office staff, 1 MD per day

Requirements

• Experience: 2-3 years cardiac experience, proficient in Extraction Vein Harvesting (EVH) - Venapax and Maquet systems
• Certifications: BC - Physician Assistant, BLS, ACLS, PA license, PA DEA
• Licensure: Active PA license strongly preferred; will accept licensure candidates (IMLC or standard process)
  • IMLC LOQ required at time of submission
• Minimum Commitment: 2 weeks per month
