Responsibilities
NSA is home to one of the largest and most established in-house research organizations within the U.S. Intelligence Community (IC). LPS seeks an experienced Quantum Computing Technical Program Manager / Atomic Physicist to set research goals and direct research focusing on experimental or theoretical studies to understand fundamental limitations of atomic qubit devices and platforms. Specific focus includes applicants with extensive history working with trapped ion or neutral atom systems for fault-tolerant quantum computing applications. As a member of the LPS team, you will leverage your expertise, ideas, and vision to:

Lead and oversee projects that shape the future of U.S. computing interests.

Collaborate with leading scientists in quantum computing across government, industry, and academia to understand the latest state-of-the-art research and identify future research gaps and needs.

Implement strategies by directing U.S. Government investments.

Advance U.S. leadership in Quantum Information Science (QIS) for the benefit of the nation.

Experience in solid-state qubits is desired in areas such as quantum hardware development and operation, trap development (e.g., chip or tweezers), laser control systems, room-temperature optics or electronics; quantum protocol development and performance evaluation (single to multi-qubits and quantum error correction); characterization and analysis of quantum systems; and maturation of quantum technologies across development stages. Knowledge of a quantum information system hierarchy from micro-physics to logical levels and their impact on qubit performance is preferred.

Job Summary
As an Engineering and Physical Science professional, you will use your skills to create systems and tools that enhance the operation of intelligence. You will advise, administer, and perform scientific projects, including planning, designing, and constructing specialized equipment, while adhering to sound engineering and scientific standards. NSA offers multiple focus areas for facilities engineers, including computer, architectural, electrical, mechanical, and structural, with additional skills in computer design, microelectronics, RF design, and systems engineering. Qualifications
The qualifications listed are the minimum acceptable to be considered for the position. Degree must be in Engineering, Physics or Astronomy, or a relevant professional technical field. For Engineering degrees (if not ABET accredited) the program must include specified coursework, and relevant experience in one or more of the following areas: engineering or physical sciences work, or academic/independent research in a technical field (e.g., mathematics, engineering, cognitive sciences, physical sciences). Senior level typically requires a Bachelor’s degree with 7 years, Master’s with 5 years, or Doctoral with 3 years of relevant experience; Expert level requires a Bachelor’s with 10 years, Master’s with 8 years, or Doctoral with 6 years of relevant experience.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule
Pay: Salary offers are based on education level and years of relevant experience. Salary range for Senior/Expert levels is $132,751 – $197,200, with variations by location and experience. Benefits are comprehensive; this is a full-time position with a standard weekday schedule. The Agency may apply a trial period consistent with DoD and federal requirements.
