Duties and Responsibilities
Security Officers/Security Guards observe and report activities and incidents all day at the Glass City Center and after hours at the Huntington Center. Be alert at all times and log any occurrences during shift.
Answer incoming customer phone calls and take appropriate action for each call.
Report any hazardous conditions or emergency situations to management, follow safety precautions, and log in book.
Use company policies to determine if there can be an immediate resolution to a customer issue or if that issue requires managerial input.
Input data into the company computer platform to keep each customer record updated.
Frequent sitting, standing, and walking, which may be required for long periods of time, and may involve climbing stairs and walking up inclines and on uneven terrain.
Must effectively work with a variety of staff, customers and visitors, sometimes under potentially stressful situations. Must have the ability to work with diverse populations and possess exceptional interpersonal skills.
Works closely with clients and the general public and represents the facility in communicating building policies with clients regarding safety and security, move in/out, and overall facility policies.
Must be able to understand directions, communicate and respond to inquiries, possess effective interpersonal skills.
Additional physical requirements of the security officer/guard may include frequent lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds and occasional lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds.
Keeps the Safety and Security Manager informed of day‑to‑day activities.
Responsible for cleaning, minor maintenance, and proper storage of all operational and security equipment for the department.
Responsible for desk coverage until replacement arrives.
Must complete FEMA Courses IC‑100 and IC‑700 within 30 days of Hire Date.

Education and/or Experience:
A good knowledge of command centers, fire alarm panels, surveillance tools and event security equipment used in event production, skill in the techniques of handling the tools and event equipment used in a variety of events and shows.
Language Skills:
Must have ability to verbally communicate with the general public, clients, co‑workers and management. Should also possess written communication skills and some computer skills.
Reasoning Ability:
Must have excellent organizational skills. Must have the ability to work with management, employees, clients and the public. Should be able to work from CAD drawings and event checklists. Should also have the ability to make quick decisions with regards to safety and security.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Must complete FEMA Courses IC‑100 and IC‑700 within 30 days of Hire Date.
Physical Demands:
The Safety and Security should be able to lift up to 10 lbs and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs.
Work Environment:
The work of this class involves evening, weekend, and holiday work with short turnaround deadlines. The Safety and Security team may be asked to work outdoors as well as indoors on any SMG managed property. Must be well groomed and wear full uniform in accordance with SMG policy and procedure manual.
