JOB DESCRIPTION: Communications & Development Intern
STATUS : Internship
Compensation: Unpaid Internship
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Communications & Development Intern will support the work of the Communications & Development Specialist by assisting with administrative, creative, and logistical tasks. The intern will work closely with staff to assist in storytelling, digital content creation, event logistics, and donor engagement efforts.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist with basic data entry and gift acknowledgment preparation in the donor database (Salesforce)
Assist in maintaining mailing lists and preparing materials for donor communications (e.g., stuffing envelopes, labeling, printing).
Draft sample content for newsletters, social media posts, or donor communications for internal review and feedback.
Help collect and organize family stories, quotes, or statistics for use in campaigns or reports.
Assist with photographing and capturing informal videos at events for internal use or future content planning.
Support planning and setup of fundraising and community events (e.g., assembling packets, checking in guests, event takedown).
Provide clerical support such as filing, organizing marketing materials, and maintaining development records.
Learn and assist with tools like Canva, Mailchimp, and social media scheduling platforms in a non-publishing role.
Suggest edits or updates to online forms or content as assigned, without publishing authority.
ROLE EXPECTATIONS: Demonstrate a willingness to learn and contribute creatively within defined parameters
Be detail-oriented and capable of handling administrative tasks efficiently
Maintain confidentiality and represent the organization professionally
Be open to feedback and committed to skill development
Attend meetings, events, and trainings as applicable to support project needs
Show cultural competence and support Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion efforts
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Enrolled in or recently completed an undergraduate or graduate program (Communications, Nonprofit Management, Marketing, Public Health, or similar fields preferred)
Strong writing, organizational, and communication skills
Experience with or interest in learning donor databases (e.g., Salesforce)
Familiarity with or willingness to learn social media platforms and content creation tools
Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS (Optional): Experience with Canva, Mailchimp, Salesforce, or website content management
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to bend, lift up to 25 lbs
Ability to sit for prolonged periods using a computer
Ability to communicate clearly by phone and in meetings
