
Distribution Design Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Electric Distribution Design Engineer to support upcoming We Energies projects. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Distribution Design Studio (DDS) and a solid understanding of electric utility distribution systems. Field work experience is a plus, and prior experience working with We Energies is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities
Distribution System Design
Prepare detailed overhead and underground electric distribution designs using DDS
Develop designs for new service connections, system upgrades, rebuilds, and extensions
Perform pole loading analysis and structure replacements as required
Design conductor, equipment, and layout per utility standards.
Engineering & Technical Deliverables
Plan & profile drawings
Staking sheets
Bill of materials (BOM)
Ensure designs meet utility standards, NESC, and local regulatory requirements
Data Analysis & Field Coordination
Review and interpret field data, surveys, and as-built drawings
Incorporate easements, right-of-way constraints, and customer requirements into designs
Support design revisions based on field changes or utility feedback
Software & Tools
Utilize Distribution Design Studio (DDS) for modeling and design
Use AutoCAD / MicroStation (as applicable) for drawing support
Work with GIS data and utility asset records.
Quality & Compliance
Conduct self-checks and peer reviews to ensure design accuracy
Maintain documentation in accordance with client and project requirements
Support QA/QC processes and respond to utility review comments.
Coordinate with project managers, utility representatives, and internal engineering teams
Participate in design review meetings as required
Provide technical clarification during construction support when needed.
