Position Purpose
Operators perform a variety of physical tasks to include operating the roller and other heavy equipment and machinery for applying asphalt products as defined by each job/project.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Perform all duties and responsibilities with Sunland's Core Values at the forefront.
Operate the Paver and other heavy equipment for paving projects/jobs.
Inspect, clean, and maintain equipment and machinery.
Coordinate and work with contractors, sub-contractors, and vendors to complete the job.
Serve as front‑line Company representative and provide excellent service to the customer and to the public.
Work on the ground as needed.
Work quickly, productively and safely to meet production goals as outlined by the Foreman, Superintendent, and/or Production Manager.
Follow direction of the Foreman and/or Superintendent regarding the daily production schedule and activities.
Advocate for safety and follow safety policies and procedures.
Actively participate in job‑site and safety meetings and all Company related training.
Work in conjunction with Foreman or Crew Leader to ensure the job‑site is safe and traffic is controlled before commencing work.
Communicate effectively and maintain constant contact with other equipment operators, truck drivers and general laborers.

Report problems and malfunctioning equipment and/or machinery to supervisor and/or shop personnel.
Set up and tear down equipment.
Maintain a clean job site; pick up all tools and equipment and secure the job site each day.
Use equipment and/or an assortment of hand tools such as rakes, shovels, wheel barrels, etc.
Perform all other general laborer work as needed.
Complete any and all duties assigned.
Safety
This position is considered a safety‑sensitive position and is subject to the company's drug and alcohol policy, as well as all OHSA regulations.
All employees must wear the appropriate personal protective equipment and follow all safety guidelines at all times as an essential part of their job responsibilities.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
Operate vehicles and trailers safely and in compliance with local, state, and federal traffic laws.
Operate equipment, machinery, and other tools in compliance with safety guidelines and manufacturer specifications.
Work outside for long periods of time in all weather, including extreme hot and cold temperatures.
Wear appropriate personal protective equipment in a variety of situations.
Lift up to 50 pounds.
Climb, bend, stoop, kneel and lift overhead.
Work may expose the employee to chemicals, vapors, pollutants, gases, uneven surfaces, loud noises, moving vehicles or machines, and dust/debris.
Minimum Qualifications
Education, Work Experience and Requirements
High school diploma or GED preferred.
SIX to ONE year of related experience preferred.
Ability to speak, read, and write English preferred.
Willingness to travel to any and all job sites without exception (including staying away from home if necessary).
Drivers must meet FMCSA English proficiency requirements under 49 CFR 391.11(b)(2) and complete and pass an English proficiency assessment.
All 10K-CMV and CDL drivers will be required to complete and pass an English proficiency assessment to ensure compliance with federal mandates.
Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations
Current driver's license preferred.
