Intern, RFIC Design - Summer 2026
Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd., San Diego, CA, United States
Job Summary
This position will assist engineers in designing, developing, and characterizing high-performance RFICs for high-volume RFFE products for use in applications such as 5G NR, emerging 6G technologies, and LTE-A cellular handsets. As the industry moves toward 6G, the candidate will contribute to the development of next-generation RFIC solutions that enable higher data rates, ultra-low latency, enhanced spectrum efficiency, and advanced connectivity features. The product line includes RFICs with LNAs, multi-throw high-power RF switches, integrated couplers, and tunable IC filters. The candidate will support products throughout the entire product life cycle, from product definition through product release to end-of-life.
Responsibilities
Design Validation: Performing lab measurements and creating validation report with comparisons vs design expectations.
Test and Measurement: Design and implement both hardware and software custom test benches used for product verification.
Product Characterization: Measure, analyze and document data of adherence to product requirements.
Derivative Product Design: Assist engineers with simulation and layout of derivative product designs in Cadence.
Minimum Qualifications (Experience and Skills)
Hands‑on use of RF measurement equipment to validate performance of CMOS RF ICs.
RF measurements – NF, IP3, IP2, matching using smith charts, time‑domain measurements, etc.
Knowledge of analog and RF IC design.
Familiarity with analog & RF IC layout techniques.
Strength in documentation clarity and completeness.
Cooperative team member with a strong sense of urgency and an inquisitive nature.
Software tools: Matlab, JMP, Datapower, National Instruments LabView, Cadence, ADS.
Preferred Qualifications
RF/analog IC product characterization and RF measurement techniques with strong technical skills.
Experience or strong interest in AI/ML and/or scripting is a plus.
Education Requirements
Full‑time enrollment in an accredited Bachelor’s degree program in Electrical Engineering (must be completing 3+ year); MSEE or PhD candidate preferred.
