Duties and Responsibilities
Represent the State of Indiana in all stages of criminal prosecution for misdemeanors and Level 6 felonies in Marion County Criminal and Juvenile Courts
Review evidentiary and forensic reports
Identify and interview victims and witnesses
Prepare and provide discovery to defense counsel
Litigate evidentiary and procedural motions
Analyze case files, statutes, and case law to determine case strategy and resolution recommendations
Conduct jury and bench trials
Collaborate with Victim Advocates and Latino Services teams within the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office
Communicate with local, state, and federal law enforcement, court personnel, and defense counsel
Adhere to Marion County Prosecutor’s Office policies, especially confidentiality standards
Attend required trainings and professional development
Perform other related duties as assigned
Salary Statement
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $76,000.00, but may be commensurate with education or work experience.
A Day In The Life
A Misdemeanor/Level 6 Deputy Prosecuting Attorney in Indiana handles high-volume caseloads involving low-level offenses, including initial screenings, plea negotiations, and trials. Responsibilities include working with law enforcement, preparing evidence, and supporting victims.
What You'll Need For Success
Juris Doctor (J.D.) required
Active Indiana State Bar license in good standing
Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, procedures, and legal precedents
Commitment to public service and strong work ethic
Ability to manage a high-volume, fast-paced workload
Sound problem-solving and decision-making skills
Excellent organizational and time management abilities
Ability to work effectively in a team environment
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports
This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
