Employment Resource Group, Green Bay, WI, United States
The Mechanical Design Engineer provides technical leadership in the design and development of HVAC and process piping systems for complex commercial and industrial facilities. This role is responsible for translating project requirements into high-performing mechanical system designs that balance efficiency, constructability, and cost. Working closely with preconstruction teams, project managers, estimators, and field personnel, the Mechanical Design Engineer ensures engineering solutions align with project objectives, regulatory standards, and installation feasibility. The position plays a critical role in driving engineering excellence, supporting project delivery, and strengthening collaboration between design and construction teams.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Design HVAC and process piping systems for commercial and industrial facilities in alignment with project specifications, performance requirements, and applicable codes and standards.
Develop complete mechanical engineering documentation including calculations, equipment selections, P&IDs, installation details, and system layouts.
Produce and maintain mechanical system designs using Revit and AutoCAD to support accurate project documentation and coordination.
Collaborate closely with estimating, preconstruction, project management, and field teams to ensure engineering solutions are practical, constructible, and aligned with project budgets.
Evaluate existing building systems and develop engineering solutions that improve performance, efficiency, and operational reliability.
Ensure all designs comply with ASHRAE standards, building codes, and relevant regulatory requirements.
Lead the engineering and design of complex HVAC and piping systems across commercial and industrial project types including institutional, energy, and industrial facilities.
Provide technical guidance to project teams to resolve design challenges and support successful project execution during construction.
Develop engineering recommendations and technical input for project proposals and client solutions.
Serve as a trusted technical resource for internal teams, clearly communicating design intent to stakeholders including clients, contractors, and project personnel.
Manage multiple concurrent projects while maintaining high standards for design accuracy, efficiency, and documentation quality.
Continuously refine design approaches and engineering practices to support improved project outcomes and system performance.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
Five to seven years of experience in HVAC system design and mechanical engineering within MEP consulting or mechanical contracting environments.
Demonstrated experience designing HVAC and process piping systems for commercial or industrial facilities.
Proficiency with Revit and AutoCAD for mechanical system design and documentation.
Ability to develop full engineering documentation including calculations, P&IDs, equipment selections, and installation details.
Professional Engineer (PE), Licensed HVAC Designer, or active pursuit of professional licensure preferred.
Familiarity with energy-efficient building system design and LEED principles preferred.
Experience collaborating with construction teams including estimators, project managers, and field personnel.
Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and maintaining high-quality engineering standards.
Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly convey engineering concepts and design intent to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Professional, collaborative approach when working with internal teams, clients, and project partners.
