Overview

Performs court-ordered custody evaluation and court service investigations in lawsuits involving child custody and access. Provides counseling and co-parent education concerning shared parenting, shared access to the children, and the effects of conflict on children. Provides written reports and testifies in hearings and trials. Performs mediations, Access Coordination, parent consultation, and interest based negotiation/communication with attorneys and litigants. Performs other services related to custody/access suits as ordered by the Family District Court Judges and Associate Judges.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Performs intakes for all services to include meeting with attorneys to obtain legal background of the case; meeting with clients to obtain factual background of case; determining what release should be signed based on service ordered; reviewing court order; and going over requirements with clients including orientation, co-parent education, and personal data forms depending on the service ordered.
Performs court-ordered Court Services, which are limited scope investigations with a rapid turnaround for reporting to the court.
Performs Custody Evaluation investigations according to statutory requirements and writes Custody Evaluation reports.
In the absence of Director and Assistant Director, handles unusual incidents or emergencies that may arise as trained in accordance with policies and procedures.
Keeps updated chronological entries in the case management system. Maintains all notes and files on assigned cases.
Testifies and preps documents for court.
Contacts clients, attorneys, and the court frequently via phone, written, and personal contact.
Uses interest-based negotiation techniques including mediation and Access Coordination to assist in resolution of conflict between clients.
Conducts joint conferences with attorneys and pro se litigants to review findings and assessments.
Performs co-parenting and orientation education.
Participates in peer staffing reviews.
Assists in training social and human services interns.
Performs all other duties as required.
Minimum Requirements

Bachelor\'s degree in human services field; Master\'s degree in human services field strongly preferred.
Three (3) years of experience in working with children and parents.
Licensure as a social worker, professional counselor, marriage and family therapist, or in psychology.
Certification in basic and family mediation required within one (1) year of hire.
Driver\'s license required.
Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
Interviewing and listening skills.
Ability to teach co-parenting class and orientation to a group.
Ability to conduct access coordination and mediations.
Ability to establish and maintain effective authority and control over litigants.
Experience with Microsoft Office programs.
