Job Title: Mechanical Engineer (Contract)
Mechanical Engineer (contract) will support aerospace projects by completing detailed design and drawing packages and driving the transition of finished designs into manufacturing-ready data, including bills of material, processes, and production standard operating procedures. This role suits an engineer with a strong electro‑mechanical background, proven experience in cable harness design, and a track record in new product introduction within an aerospace environment.

Responsibilities

Complete mechanical design and drawing packages for aerospace products using engineering CAD software.

Design and manage parts, assemblies, and cable harnesses, ensuring they meet aerospace and mechanical engineering standards.

Work collaboratively across engineering, manufacturing, and production teams to convert completed designs into manufacturing data such as bills of material and production processes and procedures.

Create and maintain accurate bills of material and associated documentation to support manufacturing and procurement.

Perform engineering analyses as needed, including material properties evaluation, stress and strain analysis, and general mechanical assessments.

Conduct redline reviews of drawings and models with relevant stakeholders and implement recommended changes to stabilize part outsourcing and production.

Support cable harness drawing creation and updates, including electrical routing using native SolidWorks tools.

Apply a high-level understanding of electro‑mechanical products and mechanisms to improve design robustness and manufacturability.

Convert completed engineering information into clear, complete manufacturing data packages that production teams can execute.

Utilize SolidWorks Vault or similar tools for model management and apply common engineering best practices for model and assembly generation.

Essential Skills

BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related engineering field.

10+ years of professional experience in product or mechanism design, cable harness drawing, or aerospace design and analysis.

Strong background in mechanical engineering and mechanical design engineering.

Experience with part design, assembly management, and cable harnesses.

High-level understanding of electro‑mechanical products or mechanisms and core mechanical engineering principles.

Proficiency with engineering CAD software tools, with SolidWorks strongly preferred; experience with CATIA and NX or similar tools is beneficial.

Ability to use SolidWorks models or other CAD tools to create and modify parts, assemblies, and drawings.

Experience converting completed designs and engineering information into manufacturing data such as bills of material and production processes.

Proficiency in performing engineering analyses including material properties, stress, and strain evaluations.

Familiarity with aerospace engineering concepts and practices.

Demonstrated ability to work independently and operate autonomously while driving engineering and manufacturing issues to completion.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

15+ years of experience working with electro‑mechanical systems; experience in aeronautical product design is a plus.

Demonstrable skills with FEA and CFD analytical tools for analyzing thermal, mechanical, and electrical systems.

Hands‑on experience with manufacturing composite structures, as well as aluminum, titanium, and steel parts.

Ability to create tools to streamline complex engineering tasks using scripting or programming languages such as VB, Python, or MATLAB.

Advanced SolidWorks competency, including creation and editing of assembly drawings and effective use of SolidWorks Vault for model management.

Knowledge of common engineering best practices for model and assembly generation in a CAD environment.

Experience with electrical routing using native SolidWorks tools, particularly in support of cable harness design.
