
Sr. Engineer, Power Electronics Mechanical Design

KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Perform detailed mechanical and thermal system design, simulation, and analysis of power electronics systems to meet product requirements.
Conduct mechanical and thermal testing, characterization, and validation of power electronics designs.
Specify, identify, select, and test critical mechanical components.
Develop relationships with new suppliers for critical components and materials, including Power Electronics Assemblies.
Support the design and layout of circuit boards, substrates, and mechanical interconnects/bus structures.
Create optimized electrical, mechanical, and thermal solutions balancing schedule, technical, and cost constraints.
Collaborate with systems engineers and the program team to ensure proper requirement allocation and verification within the mechanical domain.
Assist the product development team with technical analysis, trade-off studies, GD&T, FMEAs, design reviews, and customer presentations.
Understand vehicle mechanical components interfacing with the power electronics subsystem.
Work with Systems and Application Engineering to investigate vehicle system issues.
Coordinate with other engineering teams, suppliers, and partners to ensure proper development, execution, and verification of power electronics products.
Serve as the focal point for mechanical design discussions with cross-functional teams, management, and customers, utilizing effective communication skills.
Apply best techniques and procedures for analysis, design, or experimental tasks.
Document and share best practices.
Willingness and ability to travel up to 10% domestically and internationally.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: BSc in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology.
Experience in Power Electronics or automotive electronics design.
Minimum of 5 years of engineering experience.
Experience designing for demanding thermal and reliability requirements.
Knowledge of Finite Element Analysis, Computational Fluid Dynamics, and thermal modeling is preferred.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; training in Shainin or Six Sigma is a plus.
Excellent communication skills in English, both oral and written.
Product engineering experience and understanding of manufacturing processes are preferred.
Solid knowledge of engineering theories related to the specific domain and their application to complex tasks.
