Description
Job Summary: Design Technician applies developing technical expertise to solve simple problems and manages work in a specific area of developing expertise, with close supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop skills in their field of study, and work with some degree of independence.
What You’ll Do
Complete design tasks for associated utility design projects, including drafting, engineering calculations, easement validation, design/construction cost estimating, and permit package development.
Manage multiple projects to assure timely, successful completion and high levels of customer satisfaction and company/departmental goal achievements.
Learn and incorporate company safety rules and policies, company design standards, and governing authority regulations into daily work and designs. Designs will meet all applicable safety, distribution construction, and regulatory requirements.
Address conductivity issues identified in the client’s support database and related systems per engineering guidelines.
Complete checklists and other paperwork required for engineering package delivery to the client per engineering guidelines.
Liaise with engineers, supervisors, and drafters to ensure adherence to client specifications.
Draft final design workprints using the specified application.
Encode or assign work steps for construction and financial records per client specifications.
Prepare permit drawings.
Utilize existing project specifications to produce an acceptable engineering design.
Make design production related decisions to respond to operational demands and client needs.
Complete required project status forms and timesheets in a timely manner.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
1-3 years of general construction or utility experience preferred.
High School Diploma required; technical certificate in drafting or other technical skills preferred.
Basic design skills required; experience with AutoCAD or MicroStation preferred. Knowledge of ArcGIS is a plus.
