
Human Resources Generalist

The HR Generalist plays a key role in supporting the day-to-day operations of the Human Resources team and function. This individual will serve as a primary point of contact for employees and managers, ensuring that HR processes are executed consistently, accurately, and with a high level of care.
This role supports a wide range of HR functions: including employee relations, onboarding, compliance, HR systems, and general employee support, while also providing operational support to the hiring process in partnership with the Talent Acquisition Manager.
The HR Generalist will help ensure that Human Resources and hiring processes run smoothly, efficiently, and with a strong focus on both employee and candidate experience.
This role is in-person 3-4 days/week with opportunities for remote work 1-2 days/week. This role requires schedule flexibility, including occasional evenings and weekends, with autonomy to manage work hours accordingly.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Employee Relations & Support
Serve as a primary point of contact for employee questions related to policies, procedures, and workplace concerns
Support intake, documentation, and follow-up for employee relations matters, escalating as appropriate
Provide guidance to managers on HR policies and day-to-day people management practices
Help ensure consistent and fair application of policies across departments
Onboarding & Employee Experience
Coordinate and execute onboarding processes, including communication, documentation, and orientation logistics across the organization
Ensure a smooth transition from candidate to employee in partnership with the Talent Acquisition Manager
Lead onboarding coordination for high-volume and seasonal hiring (e.g., Camps programming), including documentation review, system entry (Paycom), and cross‑functional communication with Payroll and program teams
Track onboarding progress, employee readiness, and required documentation to ensure compliance and operational continuity
Support offboarding processes, including exit documentation and coordination with internal stakeholders
Administer onboarding surveys, analyze results, and share insights with the HR team to support continuous improvement initiatives
HR Operations & Compliance
Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records within Paycom
Manage staffing lists for seasonal programs (e.g., Play Days and Camps) to support workforce planning and payroll coordination
Support compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws
Assist with audits, reporting, and documentation tracking (employment authorization, EEOC categories, FLSA)
Ensure completion and tracking of required training and acknowledgments (Handbook, mandatory trainings such as sexual harassment training)
Collect and maintain working papers for hires who are minors
Manage and maintain employee certifications within Paycom, ensuring proper tracking and compliance
HR Systems & Process Execution
Execute standardized HR processes (e.g., onboarding workflows, training assignments, policy acknowledgments)
Support the effective use of Paycom and other HR systems
Partner with the HRIS Manager to ensure data accuracy and process consistency
Identify and recommend opportunities to improve efficiency, scalability, and clarity in HR workflows
Maintain and update the organizational chart (Pingboard) to ensure accuracy and alignment with current structure
Manage internal employee communications through MyCom, ensuring timely and consistent messaging
Talent Acquisition & Hiring Support
Support job posting processes, including formatting, editing, and coordinating postings across platforms
Conduct initial resume reviews and candidate outreach for select roles, as directed by the Talent Acquisition Manager
Assist with interview scheduling and candidate communication as needed
Maintain accurate candidate tracking and documentation within Paycom
Support high-volume and part-time hiring needs by ensuring timely coordination and process follow‑through
Partner closely with the Talent Acquisition Manager to ensure smooth and professional candidate experience
Cross-Functional Coordination
Partner with the Director of People & HR Operations, HRIS Manager, Benefits & Wellness Manager, and Talent Acquisition Manager to ensure a coordinated HR experience
Collaborate with Payroll, Finance, and department leaders to support HR processes and employee needs
QUALIFICATIONS
2–5+ years of experience in Human Resources or a related field
Experience supporting multiple HR functions (employee relations, onboarding, HR operations)
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast‑paced environment
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism
Proficiency with Microsoft 365, especially Excel and Word
Experience in a nonprofit, education, or multi‑site organization
Familiarity with HRIS platforms (Paycom strongly preferred)
Experience supporting recruiting processes (job postings, screening, coordination)
Basic knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices
SHRM‑CP or PHR certification (or interest in pursuing certification)
Comfort navigating dynamic and fast‑paced nonprofit environments
