
Bridge Design Engineer

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Bridge Design Engineer with strong experience working on Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) projects. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in the design, analysis, and rehabilitation of highway and railroad bridges in compliance with CTDOT standards and AASHTO guidelines. This role involves coordination with multidisciplinary teams and ensuring project delivery within scope, schedule, and budget.
Key Responsibilities Perform structural analysis and design of new and existing bridges (steel, concrete, prestressed, and composite structures).
Prepare detailed bridge plans, specifications, and cost estimates in accordance with CTDOT requirements.
Develop contract documents, design calculations, and technical reports.
Coordinate with CTDOT officials, project managers, and other stakeholders throughout project lifecycle.
Conduct bridge load ratings and structural evaluations.
Review shop drawings and respond to RFIs during construction phase.
Perform site visits and field inspections as required.
Ensure compliance with AASHTO, CTDOT Bridge Design Manual, and applicable federal and state regulations.
Support rehabilitation, replacement, and accelerated bridge construction (ABC) projects.
Required Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (Master’s preferred).
Professional Engineer (PE) license (CT preferred or ability to obtain).
4+ years of bridge design experience.
Direct experience working on CTDOT bridge projects.
Strong knowledge of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications.
Proficiency in structural design software (LEAP Bridge, SAP2000, STAAD, CSI Bridge, or similar).
Experience with MicroStation / AutoCAD for bridge detailing.
Strong understanding of bridge load rating software (BrR, BrM preferred).
Excellent communication and coordination skills.
