Purpose
This is a pre-entry-level position requiring basic computer skills, little CAD experience (regardless of the specific CAD software), and a foundational knowledge of construction. We will provide on-the-job training to candidates who have a desire to learn and grow within the organization.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Undertake the mastery of VectorWorks CAD software, including, but not limited to, operations, commands, short-cuts, etc.
Learn and develop a foundational knowledge of applicable construction codes, including, but not limited to, the International Residential Code and the National Electric Code
Make revisions to existing “sales confirmation” drawings, elevations, and foundation designs
Learn and become capable of calculating header sizing for open spans, windows, doors, and other penetrations in load-bearing walls
Learn, and accurately produce, first-draft “sales confirmation” drawings, elevations and foundation designs
Begin basic electrical layouts and roof truss designs and layouts
Learn and fully-comprehend preparation of accurate and detailed reports (state and HUD label reports) and preparation of data plates for individual builds
Any other tasks, assigned by Department Leader
Supervisory Responsibilities
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
Minimum Requirements
To perform this job successfully, the requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Associate’s degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Candidate must be organized, efficient, detail-oriented, and fully willing to assist with all manner of tasks necessary to achieve team and organizational success
Intermediate experience with 2D (preferably 3D capable) CAD (Vectorworks preferred) and Excel
Strong communication and organizational skills are a must
Attention to detail and experience with tight deadlines are crucial to success in the position
Must be capable of taking direction and constructive criticism, and help to guide the team as a whole
Must be flexible and willing to serve the changing needs of customers and the Company as a whole, while acting as a team player
Competencies
Preferably experience with PrimeCad, MS Word, MS Excel, and AutoCAD
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents
Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community
Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format
Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
Work Environment / Physical Activity
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and sit, and occasionally required to walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
Subject to both typical office environment and outside locations with temperature and weather variations
The employee is regularly required to use close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less) and color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors)
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is subject to quiet conditions, such as those in a library or private office
