Life Safety Technician - Journey

Job Duties
Perform corrective and preventive maintenance (PM) inspections and repairs on life safety equipment including fire detection and suppression systems, fire alarm systems, electronic/mechanical systems, power generators, and emergency/stand‑by systems. Complete inspections and repairs on established scheduled intervals based on manufacturer specifications and relevant NFPA codes. Use computer technology to accurately complete all paperwork associated with system testing procedures, including NFPA inspection forms, system histories, and work order systems for required maintenance and parts requisitions. Participate in new building examinations and inspections, attend construction conferences with contractors and architects, and take part in final inspections of new facilities. Perform maintenance and repair of life safety systems across the campus, conduct walk‑through inspections, and maintain portable fire extinguishers using bar‑code technology. This position is classified as essential regarding response to adverse weather events.

Minimum Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalency, or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
Previous experience with fire extinguisher inspection. Licensure as a Fire Sprinkler Maintenance Technician is preferred.
