Recruiting Intern
Ephemeris Net, El Segundo, CA, United States
About Ephemeris Net
We are extending the internet to space. Ephemeris Net is a pre‑seed space networking company on a mission to provide connectivity for all space users through collaborative engineering of commercial space networking solutions. We are creating the infrastructure that will enable the space internet beyond bent pipe by laying the foundational networking infrastructure that will define how data moves through space.
We are supported by our parent incubator Second Order Effects, institutional VCs, and our network of space advisors. As space use scales and more space native networks come online, we believe that now is the chance to build foundational infrastructure for how the internet will work in space.
The role
We're looking for a Recruiting Intern to support our operations as we build out one of the most technically ambitious teams in the space industry. You'll work directly alongside our Operations Team, our CEO, and our CTO, touching every part of the recruiting lifecycle from sourcing to scheduling to candidate communications.
You'll learn what it takes to recruit world‑class engineers and operators at a pre‑seed deep‑tech startup, and you'll leave with firsthand experience in technical recruiting, people operations, and startup execution.
Your specific project(s) will depend on your background and where the team's needs are sharpest when you start. We will meet before you begin to understand your strengths and growth goals and match you to work that is both meaningful to Ephemeris Net and a strong learning opportunity for you.
Example Projects
Sourcing & Research
Research and build targeted candidate lists across technical disciplines (hardware, firmware, software, optical communications)
Conduct searches and draft outreach plans for the hiring manager to execute on
Identify and compile relevant conferences, universities, and talent communities to support pipeline‑building
Support research projects: compensation benchmarking, talent market maps, competitor hiring analysis
Track sourcing results and candidate responses in our ATS
Communication & Coordination
Facilitate conversations with C‑suite & founder level hiring managers to define roles & search criteria
Assist with interview scheduling, calendar coordination, and logistics across multiple stakeholders
Send candidate communications, confirmations, and reminders
Organize and evaluate feedback and scorecards after each interview
Prepare for and facilitate onsite‑interview prep & debrief meetings with interview panel
Process & Infrastructure
Maintain accurate candidate records and pipeline data in Rippling ATS
Help draft and refine job descriptions, interview guides, and candidate‑facing materials
Generate programs for referrals, university recruiting, or alumni network outreach
Support research projects: compensation benchmarking, talent market maps, competitor hiring analysis
Propose process‑level improvements for the Ephemeris hiring process
What You Will Learn
How to communicate effectively with executive teams & highly technical individuals
How full‑cycle technical recruiting works at a startup: from writing a job description through sourcing, screening, interview coordination, and offer close
How to use recruiting infrastructure: ATS configuration (Rippling), pipeline tracking, and reporting for a high‑velocity hiring environment
How hiring decisions get made at a pre‑seed deep‑tech company, and how recruiting connects to headcount planning, compensation strategy, and org design
How to work as part of a small, focused team where your contributions directly affect the company's ability to hire and grow
Minimum Qualifications
Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in HR, business, communications, psychology, engineering, or a related field
Strong attention to detail; high standards for self and others
Clear, professional written and spoken communication
Genuine curiosity about space, aerospace, deep tech, or infrastructure
Ability to work onsite in El Segundo or Oakland, CA for a minimum of 3 months, 3 days a week
Must be a US person (15 CFR 772.1)
Preferred Qualifications
Previous internship or coursework in recruiting, HR, or people operations
Familiarity with LinkedIn, ATS platforms, or applicant tracking concepts
Interest in technical recruiting or startup hiring
Previous engagement with engineering or technical concepts
Experience in a fast‑paced environment - student organizations, research labs, campus startups, etc.
We Offer
Compensation & Benefits
Salary: $70,400 annual salary, prorated for length of internship
Comprehensive health care coverage
Work Environment
Hybrid work model: 3 days per week in our office/lab based on project needs
Expected travel: Up to 25% optional travel
Small team environment with direct access to founders and senior leaders
Your work will be on real job requests and core infrastructure, not a side project.
The Opportunity
Build the team that builds the space internet: The engineers and operators you help recruit will design the hardware that flies, write the software that routes data across orbital networks, and run the missions that prove it all works.
Learn recruiting from the inside of a hard problem: Technical recruiting at a deep‑tech startup is one of the most complex and high‑leverage versions of this work. You will see what it actually takes to hire world‑class engineers in specialized disciplines.
Work at the frontier of space networking: Ephemeris Net is building infrastructure that does not exist yet.
Our Vision
Ephemeris Net's vision is to enable an open, space internet that anyone can utilize and access. We believe that access to better digital connectivity is essential for human progress and that space is the frontier of digital connectivity.
Our Values
Access to connectivity for all
Collaboration that raises all boats; we focus on win/win deals
Commercial impact: building solutions people value and buy
Personal growth and creating a place where people build their careers
Putting good out into the world through the work we do and our interactions with each other
About Our Locations
El Segundo, CA
Located in the heart of the aerospace industry, surrounded by SpaceX, Aerospace Corporation, Northrop Grumman, and hundreds of space startups. A unique ecosystem where strangers on the street are excited about space.
