Internship Overview
Microchip is hiring a RODI Technician Intern at our Fab 4 facility in Gresham, Oregon. This paid internship covers tuition, required books, and most fees for interns currently enrolled in the Water and Environmental Technology AAS program at Clackamas Community College.
Interns will learn the operation and maintenance of Reverse Osmosis Deionization (RODI) systems and wastewater treatment (WWT) equipment. Upon successful performance they may be eligible for a full‑time Technician II‑Facilities position after completing the AAS program, subject to business need.
Interns are required to work no fewer than 24 hours per week, and the schedule will accommodate their class schedule.
Responsibilities
Assist in the operation and maintenance of Reverse Osmosis Deionization (RODI) systems and wastewater treatment (WWT) equipment.
Perform routine maintenance tasks such as filter replacements, probe cleaning, resin regeneration activities, and equipment cleaning.
Assist in troubleshooting and resolving technical issues related to water treatment systems.
Collaborate with the team to develop and implement improvement initiatives for water treatment processes.
Conduct routine water quality testing and analysis to ensure compliance with factory and regulatory standards.
Maintain accurate records of water quality data, maintenance activities, and equipment performance.
Support a “self‑perform” culture with reduced reliance on external contractors.
Adhere to safety protocols and ensure a safe working environment.
Requirements
Currently pursuing a degree in High Purity Water, Water and Environmental Technology or a related field.
Strong interest in water treatment and wastewater management.
Basic understanding of water treatment processes and equipment.
Excellent organizational, time‑management, and stress‑management skills.
Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
Team player. Professional, respectful, and accountable to colleagues, internal customers, and external customers. Ability to take initiative and ownership.
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
Proficiency in using computer software for data analysis and reporting.
Preferred Qualifications
Ability to work full‑time 12‑hour compressed work week shifts during summer.
Special Requirements
Ability to travel infrequently for training purposes.
