Intern I - Part‑time Municipal Government Internship

Job Summary
Assists in performing various administrative, clerical, or secretarial duties, developing working knowledge of municipal government procedures for professional growth or to meet internship requirements.

Essential Functions

Assists department or assistant department heads in obtaining information on existing problems and mapping out strategies to resolve them.

Develops rules and regulations, assesses needs, implements and improves procedures, and coordinates activities to assist in the administration of a department or division.

Participates in finding solutions to existing problems and discusses proposals with administrative personnel in planning and executing administrative functions, special events, and public relations activities.

Conducts individual studies or projects in one or more city department or division to supplement knowledge, involving clerical duties, inventory, bookkeeping, maintenance, and marketing.

Performs functions in special services including contracts management, emergency preparedness, damage control, architecture, engineering and construction; supports financial services such as budgeting, grants and trust management, accounting, purchasing, revenue forecasting, and monthly financial reporting.

Performs personnel functions such as payroll, insurance, worker’s compensation, safety, hiring and promotion, training, retirement, termination, affirmative action, benefits training, taxes and medical reports.

Prepares periodical reports on the progress of the project to enable evaluation of performance.

Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.

Education
Currently in high school or university as appropriate.

Equivalency
For OEM Department: An undergraduate degree and one year of professional experience in emergency management, public safety, public administration, or homeland security will meet education and experience requirements.

Salary Range
$21.50 - $21.50 per hour. The salary listed is the starting salary range; amount offered will depend upon qualifications.
