
Business Development Manager - South Region

As part of the LG US business development team the business development manager will aggressively lead the South Region business development work process by working with the South Region onsite and merchant sales teams, Linde industry subject matter experts, and directly with potential customers. This role will have a specialty in small onsite and merchant businesses, with exposure and support to large projects. They will also manage and follow up on the business development tracking spreadsheet of opportunities.
Job Scope
Addresses wide variety of demands with control of objectives and priorities. Defines elements of business acquisition strategy within business development. Reviews objectives and priorities in collaboration with sales and Linde region management. Collaborates with Linde industry subject matter experts (e.g. steel, chemical, renewables, electronics) as needed to give Linde an advantage in acquiring new merchant and onsite business opportunities. Opportunities are often long-term in nature. Creates purpose and vision for own area that supports and builds on the larger organizational goals. Participates in cross‑business/cross‑functional or special project teams. Works closely with capital director, merchant and onsite sales teams, large project business development, and engineering. Objective is to make Linde the industrial gas solutions provider for our customers.
Additional Responsibilities
Creates and manages small onsite and merchant business development strategy that results in the accomplishment of region’s business development objectives of which you had significant input.
Accountable for delivering the assigned area’s annual business plan results related to growth.
Reviews and helps set appropriate BD objectives for sales against KPIs.
Sets goals and tactics for business growth, including regularly reviewing BD opportunity reports on sales and region management.
Works with public, private and governmental business development organizations to represent Linde as a solution provider.
Monitors the overall BD plans to ensure compliance with long‑ and short‑term goals and tactics, strategies and negotiation plans.
Validates business opportunities, often across business units—including identifying business alternatives—in preparation of proposals and in contract negotiation.
Manages expenses and keeps budget in line with corporate strategies.
Assists the sales team in building and maintains business relationships at customer senior management levels as appropriate, using the Linde organization to strengthen and broaden those relationships.
Capable of being part of the negotiating team working long‑term, project based, sophisticated agreements.
Must be willing to represent the customer’s interest internally to allow Linde to present solutions.
Qualifications
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; listen well and think on feet.
Experience in business or project development.
5 years’ commercial experience.
Contracting small or large onsite or pipeline supply experience.
Must be willing to travel at least 25% of the time.
