Summer 2026 Product Design Intern (Richmond, VA)
As a Summer 2026 Product Design Systems Intern, you will support the evolution and consistency of our product design system with a focused emphasis on design system alignment. This internship is designed to give students hands‑on experience working within a mature design system, collaborating closely with product designers and engineers to ensure scalable, consistent, and high‑quality product experiences. Interns will contribute to auditing and improving system usage across products, strengthening alignment between design and engineering implementations, and supporting documentation and governance workflows. This role is ideal for students who enjoy systems thinking, pattern recognition, and working within defined constraints while partnering cross‑functionally.
Responsibilities
Audit design system usage across products to identify inconsistencies, gaps, and improvement opportunities.
Support improved alignment between Figma components and Storybook implementations.
Assist with design system documentation, contribution models, and governance workflows.
Contribute to enhancements of reusable components and design patterns.
Collaborate closely with product designers, engineers, and design system partners to support scalable design solutions.
Qualifications
Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree, with an expected graduation in December 2026 or May 2027, in one of the following fields: User Experience Design (UX), Interaction Design (IxD), Human‑Computer Interaction (HCI), Industrial / Product Design, Graphic Design or Visual Communications.
3.0 and above cumulative GPA.
Experience working with design systems and component libraries (academic, personal, or internship experience).
Preferably with Figma and/or Storybook or related software.
Strong pattern thinking and attention to detail.
Systems‑oriented mindset with comfort working within established constraints.
Strong collaboration and communication skills in cross‑functional environments.
