PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Produces Braille and other modified materials for visually impaired students as directed by the teacher.
Responsibilities
Produces Braille materials and other tactile documents as directed by instructional staff.
Translates documents into Braille or print as required.
Uses software and scanners to convert documents into accessible formats; edits and prepares documents for printing.
Assists students in using software to enlarge information on computer screens and in using auditory screen-reading programs for vocal descriptions of input/output.
Uses tactile image enhancement to adapt and produce materials (e.g., maps, graphs) for student use.
Connects Braille note takers to printers or embossers to print copies of files from note takers.
Assists students with Braille note takers and troubleshoots related issues.
Troubleshoots problems with Braille embossers, VI technology connections, and VI software programs.
Communicates technical problems to technical service personnel and implements recommended solutions.
Writes numbers and the four basic operations in Nemeth Code and uses reference materials to produce higher-level Nemeth Code applications.
Transcribes students' Braille work into English.
Assists students in school situations as needed and participates in ongoing in-services training.
Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator.
Qualifications
Educational Level:
High School Diploma or GED
Certification/License Required:
Must pass the Braille Clerk Test administered by Cobb County Special Education VI Program
Experience:
At least 2 years of experience working with Braille skills or demonstrate the ability to pass the Braille Clerk exam
Physical Activities:
Routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Excellent written and oral communication skills; production of Brailled and other tactile materials for visually impaired students with 95% accuracy; use of and trouble-shooting for technology and software used with visually impaired students; typing and word processing

The Board of Education and the Superintendent may accept alternatives to some of the above requirements.
Essential Duties
Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.
Produces Grade II literary Braille materials for students using a Braille embosser and manual Brailler.
Translates documents into Braille or print.
Uses software and scanner to scan documents into Duxbury; uses a word processing program to correct scanned documents before printing.
Assists students in the use of software to enlarge information on computer screen.
Assists students in the use of an auditory screen reading program to provide vocal description of input/output on the computer.
Uses a tactile image enhancer to adapt and produce materials for student use such as maps and graphs.
Connects a Braille note taker (Braille n' Speak or Voice Note) to printer or embosser to print out a copy of a file on the note taker.
