
Substitute Cafeteria Worker

Primary Purpose
Assist in the preparation of food
Clean and organize the cafeteria counter
Serve students and staff at the cafeteria counter
Remove used dishes and assist in the cleaning of counters, tables, and furnishings in the dining area
Maintain the trash and garbage collection area in a neat and sanitary fashion
Assist in the organization and storage of food, supplies, and equipment
Perform related duties as required including duties at special meal functions
Assist in keeping all areas in the kitchen and dining area neat and clean
Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal, Food Service Coordinator, Director of Operations, or Superintendent
Additional Duties
Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of school cafeteria.
Equipment
Uses standard equipment such as cash register, oven, dish washer, freezer, fryer, ice machine, etc.
Uses calculating devices.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to design nutritious meals in accordance with federal and state guidelines
General knowledge of materials and methods used in preparing and serving meats, breads, vegetables and other foods on a large scale according to written and oral instructions
General knowledge of the use or care of food preparation equipment
Organizational and time management skills
Ability to report work orally or in writing to supervisor as required
Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, and use calculators
Ability to problem-solve job-related issues
Ability to maintain confidentiality of information regarding school district financial and other information
Skill in the use of standardized and specialized kitchen utensils and equipment preferred
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, students and school staff
Requires some walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, pushing, and pulling
Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
Ability to stand for long periods of time
Demonstrated aptitude for successful performance of the responsibilities outlined
Such alternative to the above qualifications as the School Board may feel appropriate and acceptable
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
Must have the ability to stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to use equipment; see and read printed material with or without vision aids; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly; physical agility to lift and carry up to 50 pounds; to bend, to stoop, to walk and to reach overhead. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential tasks.
Qualifications
Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:
High School Diploma or GED preferred
