About the Role
Co‑op Food Stores is seeking an experienced and collaborative Controller to lead our day‑to‑day accounting operations. Reporting to the Director of Finance, this role ensures accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP, maintains strong internal controls, and manages a team of three accounting professionals.
Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership & Management
Maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
Partner with teams across the organization
Coach and develop accounting staff, supporting growth and advancement
Oversee month‑end and year‑end close
Ensure timely AP, AR, payroll, debt payments, and reconciliations
Maintain chart of accounts, inventory costing, and financial records
Reporting & Analysis
Prepare accurate monthly financial statements for leadership and the Board
Support budgeting, variance analysis, and financial decision‑making
Assist with annual reporting and key financial metrics
Compliance
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal reporting and tax requirements
Desired Skills, Experience and Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, or equivalent experience
6+ years of progressive accounting experience (retail or multi‑location a plus)
3+ years managing an accounting team
Strong Excel skills and experience with accounting systems (Acumatica preferred)
Organized, detail‑oriented and collaborative
