Job Description
Zachry Nuclear Engineering, Inc. (ZNE) is currently seeking an Engineer VI, Instrumentation & Control (I&C) for a direct‑hire position located in Charlotte, NC, or Stonington, CT. This is an in‑office position and is not remote.
Position Synopsis
Engineer VI, I&C will be responsible for a variety of engineering and design activities involving power‑plant upgrades and/or new power‑plant projects. The role requires extensive experience with plant instrumentation and control strategies, knowledge of legacy equipment, and a thorough understanding of digital control system design based on the latest digital platforms. Responsibilities include planning, organizing, and preparing modifications; independently evaluating, selecting, and using standards and techniques for technical projects; reviewing and checking designs, drawings, and data; managing budgets, schedules, and quality; mentoring entry‑level engineers; and working with multiple design disciplines and customer representatives.
Qualifications
Education Required (minimum):
BS in electrical, mechanical, nuclear, chemical, computer, or process/controls engineering from an ABET‑accredited engineering program that includes coursework in analog and digital control systems.
Experience Required (minimum):
18 years total, including at least 8 years in nuclear power, preferably with digital/analog controls systems. Experience with operating plant procedures, processes, and nuclear plant licensing.
Other Required Qualifications:
Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); effective time‑management skills; understanding and compliance with company policies; ability to pass security and drug screening and maintain unescorted nuclear plant access. Overtime, travel to client sites, and field/office work are required. Capability to perform walk‑downs of equipment in an industrial plant environment, including climbing ladders, accessing security‑controlled areas, and entering confined spaces and controlled hazardous areas.
Certification(s) or License(s) Required:
NA.
Preferred Education:
MS in one of the degrees listed above from an ABET‑accredited engineering program.
Preferred Experience:
Experience in the nuclear power industry and actual field experience on nuclear plant projects.
Preferred Certification(s) or License(s):
Professional Engineering registration (PE).
