THE LOCATION Detroit, MI
Detroit is one of America's great comeback stories a city pulsing with reinvention, culture, and affordability that's nearly impossible to find in other major metros. The cost of living sits well below the national average, meaning your dollar stretches further whether you're eyeing a renovated loft in Midtown, a stately home in Grosse Pointe, or acreage in the charming suburbs of Birmingham and Rochester Hills. The culinary scene rivals any coastal city from James Beard-nominated restaurants in Corktown to the Eastern Market's weekend farmer's market, the largest historic open-air market in the country. Detroit is home to all four major professional sports, world-class museums including the Detroit Institute of Arts, and the iconic Motown sound that still reverberates through the city's live music venues. For the outdoor-minded, the Detroit Riverwalk, Belle Isle Park, and the Great Lakes region offer year-round recreation kayaking in summer, cross-country skiing in winter. Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport provides nonstop service to virtually every major U.S. hub and select international destinations.
