Position Information
The purpose of this classification is to perform general preventive maintenance and corrective repair of buildings, industrial systems, equipment and grounds. Working under close supervision, it assists in monitoring building system operations and performance. Utilizes several trade skills such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, roofing, heating and cooling.
Essential Functions
Complies with all applicable codes, regulations, governmental agency and company directives related to building operations and work safety.
Performs assigned day‑to‑day repairs, emergency repairs, and preventive maintenance. Completes maintenance and repair records as required.
Reviews assigned work orders. Estimates time and materials needed to complete repairs. Orders necessary materials and supplies.
Assists with installation and modification of building equipment systems.
Assists with troubleshooting and repairs of buildings and installed systems including plumbing systems, kitchen equipment, roofs, drains, shop, and HVAC.
Maintains lighting systems throughout the facility, cleaning fixtures and replacing bulbs/lamps.
Performs welding, carpentry, furniture assembly and locksmith tasks as needed.
Responds quickly to emergency situations, summoning additional assistance as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Transports, loads and unloads various equipment and materials used in projects; transports inmate work crews to/from work sites.
Performs scheduled preventive maintenance work to ensure proper operations and regular maintenance of systems and equipment.
Performs general cleaning/maintenance tasks to keep equipment and tools operable; inspecting equipment, checking/replacing fluids, refueling vehicles, greasing equipment, washing/cleaning equipment, cleaning project work areas, and cleaning shop; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; reports faulty equipment.
Follows safety procedures, utilizes safety equipment, and monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals.
Maintains accurate records of equipment maintenance activities.
Notifies supervisor of situations involving mechanical problems, low inventory levels, or other issues requiring attention.
Performs special projects; responds to after‑hours calls or emergency situations as needed.
Additional Functions
This classification is designated as a safety‑sensitive position subject to random drug and alcohol testing and any other drug testing methods as outlined in Forsyth County policies.
Provides assistance as needed to other employees or departments.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED; vocational or trade school training with one (1) year experience in a specific area such as electrical, electronics, HVAC, plumbing, construction or carpentry; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license. If assigned to Facilities Management, must complete a criminal justice background check through the Sheriff’s Office.
