Position Summary
At the Power Plant, a 3x1 Combined Cycle plant, the O&M Technician – Operations 1 operates, performs regular preventive maintenance, troubleshoots, tests, and makes rounds taking regular readings on all power plant equipment and systems. The primary responsibility is the operation of the water pretreatment and cooling water systems of the plant. Working shift rotations with the rest of the Operations team, the O&M Technician – Operations 1 serves as a first responder to operational events and/or disruptions in the power plant and resolves issues within the technician’s technical skillset. The role provides safety and environmental stewardship, ensures compliance with all applicable Federal and State regulations and plant procedures, and keeps all equipment in optimum operating condition. The O&M Technician – Operations 1 develops and participates in continuous improvement of operating procedures for plant equipment to ensure consistent and safe operation. Additional skills in administration, mechanical, instrumentation and control, and/or electrical maintenance are also required.

Responsibilities

Operate, perform regular preventive maintenance, troubleshoot, test, and make rounds taking regular readings to maximize asset value.

Serve as a first responder to operational events and/or disruptions in the power plant and resolve issues within the technician’s technical skillset.

Document more complex issues and submit Work Notifications through the electronic Work Management System.

Work with and assist Maintenance Technicians to resolve more complex plant issues.

Use Distributed Controls Systems (DCS) to operate power plant equipment, including water treatment systems.

Perform laboratory analysis and make necessary adjustments to the processes.

Administer the Lock-out/Tag-out process for the power plant.

Manage critical work processes including Safe Work Permitting, Hot Work and Confined Space permitting.

Execute and develop critical Standard Operating Procedures to ensure consistent and safe operation of power plant equipment.

Communicate with Control Room Operator and Management regarding water chemistry or equipment issues.

Manage contractors performing work in area.

Support other departments or vendors in troubleshooting equipment.

Participate in operator training and continuing training.

Manage preventive maintenance tasks and record preventive maintenance activities.

Train and develop other employees in performing preventive maintenance and routine equipment service activities. Practice situational leadership, safety, and environmental stewardship.

Lead equipment or system problem identification and recommend solutions.

Ensure that appropriate safety procedures are followed.

Perform other duties and tasks as directed by the Sr. Manager Plant Ops & Maintenance.

Dependable, reliable, and predictable attendance is required.

Possess a valid, in-state motor vehicle operator’s license.

Qualifications
Must pass Mechanical, Reading and Math Aptitude test to be considered for an interview.

Strong aptitude in math, mechanical/electrical ability, and production control.

Ability to read drawings, understand procedures and instructions required for effective support of power plant operations and maintenance.

Ability to work in a high-performance work environment and respond to callouts or overtime with minimal supervision.

Excellent communication and team skills.

Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and other PC based applications.

Valid Class C Texas Driver’s License.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous work experience as a power plant operator or maintenance technician, or equivalent experience in an industrial setting such as chemical plant, refinery, etc.

Maintenance skills including electrical, mechanical or instrumentation.

Demonstrated experience in a power, steam generation, or other industrial facility.

Combined Cycle power plant experience.

Minimum Education
High School Diploma or GED

Working Environment
Work is performed indoors. Operating computer, manual dexterity, talking, hearing, repetitive motion. Use of personal computing equipment, telephone, multi-functioning printer and calculator. Employee may potentially be exposed to hazardous chemicals, wet or humid conditions, outdoor weather, noisy & dusty environment. Ability to travel to & from meetings, training sessions or other business related events. After hours work may be required.

Physical Demands
Must be able to read reports and use computer, must be able to hear well enough to communicate with co-workers, must be able to stand for long periods of time and walk to various areas throughout the plant. Must be able to bend, stoop or kneel down to work with equipment or materials. Must be able to work in confined spaces. Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds and pull or push equipment or materials. Must be able to write, type, and use phone system.
