
Telecommunications Systems Technician II

About the Opportunity
This is a day shift position monitoring the Public Safety Communications network. TST II performs PMs on MW equipment, such as microwave radio equipment (both analog and digital), multiplex equipment (both analog and digital), switches, routers, servers, firewalls, network cores, VPNs, VLANs, DMZs, TSM800, Active Directory, DHCP, DNS, SNMP, MW antenna systems, MW DC and AC power systems, and telephone equipment to component level using specialized test equipment. Incumbent performs functional and operational checks.
Desirable Qualifications
Previous NOC experience
Detail Oriented
Industry certifications such as CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNA, or JNCIA
Working knowledge of California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) compliance standards
Understanding of Cal/OSHA safety protocols, especially when working around telecom infrastructure
Experience with VoIP, SIP, and unified communications systems
Familiarity with state and federal telecom regulations, including FCC and E911 requirements
Knowledge and experience with the Service Now Application
Knowledge and experience with Microwave Communications Systems
Associate degree in Telecommunications, Computer Science, Networking, or related field preferred
Strong understanding of Layer 1–3 networking protocols (TCP/IP, Ethernet, BGP, OSPF, MPLS)
Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues related:
Fiber and copper circuits (T1, DS3, OCx, Ethernet over Fiber)
Optical transport (DWDM, CWDM, SONET)
Router and switch configuration (Cisco, Juniper, etc.)
Working Conditions
In Office : This position supports and manages the day-to-day business operations for Cal OES which is handled in an office location. This is not considered a hybrid telework position.
DMV Pull Program : Participation in the DMV Pull Program is required. The position(s) require(s) a valid California Driver’s License (CDL). You must answer the questions addressing your CDL on your application. Ensure you provide your CDL number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions.
