Job Summary
To plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program in an elementary learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their potential.
Essential Duties / Major Responsibilities
Foster the Christian uniqueness of the learning community
Maintain required trainings as required by the State of Iowa, Archdiocese, and local site
Provide explicit instruction aligned to standards and learning targets
Use formative assessments to monitor student learning
Provide responsive instruction or intervention for students who do not meet the learning targets
Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning
Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment
Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction
Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures
Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school
Provide appropriate, consistent and immediate feedback on students’ work
Participate in problem solving process to ensure needs of students are being met
Provide accessible instruction and differentiate instruction to address the needs of individual students
Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development
Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws and school policies and regulations
Participate in department, school, and parent meetings
Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and needs
Prepare classroom for class activities
Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities
Assign and grade class work, homework, tests and assignments
Maintain confidentiality with work‑related matters
Promote positive public relations through interactions with the community
Work collaboratively with the school principal, Booster Club, PTO as needed
Work toward continuous quality improvement, including the use of new technologies and equipment
Uphold, support, and promote all school policies and procedures
Accept and provide effective supervision, assignments, change and correction
Qualifications
Bachelor of Arts degree in Education or relevant field
Certification with Iowa Board of Educational Examiners in teaching and in appropriate subject area
Practicing Catholic preferred
Enthusiastic supporter of Catholic faith and schools
In‑depth knowledge of teaching methods and legal educational procedures
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
Proficient in the use of educational technology
Self‑motivated
Life‑long learner
Systems‑thinker
Well‑organized with leadership abilities
Exceptional interpersonal and presentation skills
Professional oral and written communication skills
Flexible, adaptive, and cooperative
Physical Demands
Stand, walk, talk, reach, sit, hear, handle and perform repetitive motions of the hands and wrists. Lift and move items up to 20 pounds.
Working Environment
Work is performed in a school and outdoor setting. Employee may be required to attend an occasional evening meeting and do extensive close computer work.
